It’s the most wonderful time of the year (almost)! But first up, BLACK FRIDAY and CYBER MONDAY! For several years now, Canada has been catching on to the black-Friday-deal-train in order to keep the shoppers from crossing the border, making holiday gift buying that much easier for us Canadians (and cheaper!) But there are still some murky waters to navigate to truly benefit from everything that these pre-holiday sales days have to offer! So how can you save the most money in the least amount of time possible? Here are the top tips and tricks to shopping on Black Friday and Cyber Monday:
TIP #1: RESEARCH
Shopping experts cannot stress enough the importance of having a plan pre-made wayyyyy in advance. Most stores start posting their upcoming sales the Monday before Black Friday. And some even start hosting pre-sales! So the first step would be to have a list of the items you are looking to purchase, then go online to research which stores will be offering said items and at which discount? Compare notes and ask around. If there is a particular item that you are hoping to buy, ask your local stores if that item is set to go on super sale on Black Friday or Cyber Monday. You just might be surprised!
TIP #2: GET SOCIAL
You just might be surprised at the amount of information that is sent via social media when it comes to sales, promos and contests. On Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, there are often "friends and family" or "vip" promo codes that are available. Sometimes, it can mean the difference between a full price item and a whopping 70% off!
TIP #3: DON'T LIMIT YOURSELF
Black Friday and Cyber Monday are great for deals and savings. But they are NOT the only deal days! The pre-holiday season is the biggest season for retailers. They are heading into their biggest deal days of the year! They are going to work very hard to compete for your business. And that goes not only for Black Friday and Cyber Monday! That statement will hold true all the way until December 26th and beyond! So if the item that you are hoping to purchase does not go on sale on Black Friday or Cyber Monday, don't rush and buy it anyway. Wait. And watch. Stalk your item, if you have to. Chances are that it will go on sale at some point before the holidays are over.
TIP #4: ABANDON YOUR SHOPPING CART
The previous tip stresses you out too much? The idea of waiting and potentially missing out on your item induces a little panic? Or perhaps you are one of those super organized people that prefer to be finished shopping in November and avoid the holiday shopping rush? If you really want to buy your desired item immediately but can't seem to find a deal, put it in your online shopping cart and, after a bit of online browsing throughout the website, simply abandon your cart. More often than not, within 24-hours you should receive an email from the online boutique with a subject line similar to "Hey! Looks like you forgot something!" And, in that email, you will probably find a promo code for 10% off, 20% off, or even more!
TIP #5: TAKE ADVANTAGE OF DISCOUNT SITES
Don't discount the discount sites! There are many websites that are in the business of finding you coupon codes and deals. Sites such as Retailmenot.ca and ShopSavvy are great ways to find the lowest prices and use the best coupon codes for all your shopping needs.
